Marie-No questions are stupid. Everyone needs renters/tenants insurance regardless of where they live. A renter policy insures the tenant’s belongings against theft, fire, leaks, and other unforeseen events. Most renters insurance includes liability coverage which protects the tenant in case they are liable due to injury or some other cause. Being properly insured is especially important for foreign nationals living outside of their home country due to the fact that they are unfamiliar with their host countries legal system and may lack the resources if something where to happen. If you have additional questions feel free to contact me at info@jacobstreet.com or visit our website at www.jacobstreet.com.

Marie Greyvenstein • Pardon the stupid question - What kind of insurance do renters(refered to as tenants in South Africa) require. Here the home owner has insurance to cover the home etc. The renter's responsibility is to take care of the garden and inside of the home. (It is interesting to learn how other countries operate)

Anyone living in New Orleans during the time of Hurricane Katrina learned a hard lesson. Not only are possessions owned by tenants not covered by the landlord homeowners policy for fire, roof leaks and robbery but the are also not covered with flood insurance. My best friend was between houses and was in an apartment on the first flood when Katrina hit. Needless to say she had 18" of water in her unit and her homeowners policy did not cover any of the damage. The landlord said he was sorry but she should have purchased a flood policy for renters. That is a new term in our vocabulary but we now have a disclaimer that is attached to our lease form explaining the option of flood and homeowners insurance for renters. At least they are aware up front that the landlord has not covered their possessions for fire, leaks and flooding.

You think "Restaurant Week" in downtown Raleigh could compete? It's next week an is 3 years old. Fonville Morisey is celebrating 40 years in business in 2013. I thought that was impressive!!
