A recent calculation by HIS Global Insight and National City Corp. looked at the largest 25 U. S. cities (metro areas) to see how they stacked up in terms of price increases/decreases.  While we were nowhere near Seattle (up 14%) or Washington (up 8%)  -  Chicago held its own – down only 3% (on AVERAGE).  In fact, only seven metro areas posted gains (the aforementioned companies plus Phoenix, Milwaukee, Philly, LA and Baltimore).  Still, despite the drop we were nowhere near areas like Boston (down 16%), San Diego (off 19%) or San Francisco (down 16%).

Are we in a correction? Yes.  Will it affect transferees relocation to/from Chicago?  Yes of course, since every market is different – Real Estate is local!  But particularly if you’re relocating from Chicago, you’re in pretty good shape in the long run….
